About this place
Fukiya is a district in Nariwa-cho, Takahashi, Okayama Prefecture. The occupations and craftsmen who smelted and cast metal, and their workshops, were called fukiya. It is known for its red townscape of Sekishu roof tiles and bengara plaster walls, and a 6.4-hectare area where the historic townscape remains has been selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. This entry also describes Fukiya-cho, Kawakami District, which once stood in the area, and Fukiya Village, the name of the town before it was incorporated as a town.
