About this place
Saidaiji is a temple in Saidaiji-naka, Higashi Ward, Okayama, Okayama Prefecture. Its mountain name is Kinryozan. The head temple building is Kannonin. Kannonin is a Koyasan Shingon-sect Betsukaku Honzan temple. The principal image is Senju Kanzeon Bosatsu. It is Temple No. 1 of the Chugoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage, and Temples No. 1 (main hall) and No. 2 (Nankai Kannon in the precincts) of the 108 Kannon Pilgrimage (an alliance of three pilgrimages: the Chugoku Kannon Pilgrimage, the Shikoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage and the Kyushu Saigoku Pilgrimage). It is famous for its Eyo (naked festival), said to be one of Japan's Three Great Strange Festivals.
