About this place
The Nagahama Hikiyama Festival is a festival held every April in Nagahama, Shiga Prefecture, and is counted as one of Japan's Three Great Float Festivals alongside the Gion Festival in Kyoto and the Takayama Festival in Takayama. Under the name "Hikiyama Event of the Nagahama Hikiyama Festival," it was designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property on February 3, 1979 (Showa 54). On November 30, 2016 (Heisei 28), it was inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list as one of the "Yama, Hoko, Yatai Float Festivals." The preservation body is the Nagahama Hikiyama Culture Association, a public interest incorporated foundation.
