About this place
Yushien is a Japanese garden on Daikonshima island in Yatsuka, Matsue, Shimane Prefecture. Besides being a major peony-growing site, it is famous as a producer of Korean ginseng, and it has the Unshu Ginseng Museum attached. Yushien was opened in 1975 (Showa 50, April) by its first owner, Kadowaki Sakae, with the aim of developing tourism on Daikonshima. The origin of the garden's name is Kadowaki Sakae's words: 'It is by no means for selfish aims; promoting the tourism industry is the duty of the villagers in answering heaven's blessing. I wish it to be a stepping stone for that.
