Overview
A suspension bridge woven from hardy kiwi vine. It is rebuilt every three years.
About this place
A kazura-bashi is a primitive suspension bridge built using vines such as hardy kiwi (shirakuchi-kazura). The best known is the one in Zentoku, Nishi-Iyayama Village, Miyoshi, Tokushima Prefecture. Two more bridges have also been built farther inland, in Sugo, Higashi-Iya, in the same city. There is also one in Ikeda-cho, Imadate District, Fukui Prefecture, built for tourism with the cooperation of craftsmen from Higashi-Iya; all are bridges for pedestrians only.
