About this place
Oboke is a gorge (antecedent valley) in the middle reaches of the Yoshino River. Oboke, together with Koboke, is one of the V-shaped valleys that make up the Natural Monument and Place of Scenic Beauty 'Oboke Koboke'. It lies about 6 km downstream from the Kochi Prefecture border in the south-west of Miyoshi, Tokushima Prefecture. It is sometimes called Oboke Gorge. The geology of this area belongs to the Sanbagawa Belt. Sanbagawa metamorphic rock is generally called 'Sanbaseki' (called 'Awa no Aoishi', Awa blue stone, in Tokushima Prefecture), and Oboke Koboke is one of its leading outcrops.
