About this place
Doro-kyo (Doro Gorge) is a gorge on the upper Kitayama River in the Kumano River system, flowing through Wakayama, Mie and Nara prefectures. It is part of Yoshino-Kumano National Park. The Doro Gorge on the Kitayama River is called Oku-Doro, Kami-Doro and Shimo-Doro from upstream, and Shimo-Doro in particular is known as Doro Hatcho. When Yoshino-Kumano National Park was designated (1936, Showa 11), Doro Gorge came to be seen as three parts: Oku-Doro, Kami-Doro and Shimo-Doro (Doro Hatcho).
