About this place
Nanko ume is a variety of ume plum. It is a white plum produced mainly in Wakayama Prefecture, and its fruit is considered the finest among the many ume varieties. On October 27, 2006, it was certified as a regional brand as the first certification under the regional collective trademark system. The official reading is "Nanko-ume," but among people outside the production area and in the mass media it is sometimes called "Nanko-bai."
