Rites and traditional events that carry on each area's history, faith and way of life.
Odori Park and other parts of central Sapporo are decorated with winter illuminations. The Odori venue runs from Odori Nishi 1-chome to 6-chome and can be seen until December 25; admission is free.
An event with a tree set on the sea in front of Hakodate's Red Brick Warehouses, with fireworks launched every day at 18:00 as the tree lights up. The venue is Suehirocho, Hakodate City, and admission is free.
Snow sculptures and more are displayed at three sites in Sapporo: the Odori, Tsudome and Susukino sites. At the Odori site, large snow sculptures and entries in the International Snow Sculpture Contest line West 1-chome to West 11-chome.
Fireworks enjoyed from the lakeside at Toyako Onsen. The time given in the official information is 20:45–21:05. They are cancelled in stormy weather, so check the notice on the day.
