Rites and traditional events that carry on each area's history, faith and way of life.
The approach to Zuigan-ji, the grounds of Kanrantei and the Matsushima Kaigan Central Plaza are lit up at night. The lights are on from 17:00 to 21:00, and sightseeing boats that tour the illuminated islands also operate.
A traditional market that began in 1910 (Meiji 43), with about 180 stalls lining a street of about 600 m from Kashimadai Station. It is open from 9:00 to 16:00, and the venue is about a 1-minute walk from the station.
These are the basic dates of August 6 to 8 every year, as given on the official website. Lavish bamboo decorations colour the city. Event details for 2027 will be updated once they are announced.
