About this place
Toishi Hachimangu is a shrine in Toishi, Shunan, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The enshrined deity is Homudawake no Mikoto. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. It lies south of Shunan Ryokuchi Sports Park in Shunan, on high ground looking down to the south on the Shunan petroleum complex and the Sanyo Shinkansen. From beside the shrine hall there is a view across Tokuyama Bay. According to the shrine's records, it originated in 622 (Suiko 30), when the great god Usa Hachiman gave an oracle, 'I will appear here to leave my mark in this land and protect the people', and the divine spirit was enshrined here.
