A private farm at the foot of Mount Iwate. Twenty-one buildings, the cowsheds among them, are Important Cultural Properties.
About this place
Koiwai Farm is a general farm straddling Shizukuishi-cho, Iwate District, and Takizawa, Iwate Prefecture. With a total area of about 3,000 hectares, it is the largest private general farm in Japan. About 2,000 hectares are forest, about 630 hectares are farmland, and 40 hectares in the central part are open to the public as "Makiba-en." The owner is Koiwai Nobaku Co., Ltd., headquartered in Marunouchi, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. It was established in 1891 (Meiji 24).
