About this place
Kawajiri brushes are brushes produced in Kawajiricho, Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture. A traditional craft designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. The local cooperative is the Kawajiri Brush Business Cooperative. Together with Kumano brushes of Hiroshima Prefecture, Toyohashi brushes of Aichi Prefecture and Nara brushes of Nara Prefecture, it is one of Japan's four great production areas. By 2001 output as shown in the Directory of National Traditional Crafts compiled by the Association for the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries, Kawajiri brushes have a domestic share of 10.4% (Kumano 61.4, Toyohashi 11.0, Nara 13.3).
