About this place
Yumihama Kasuri is kasuri made on the Yumigahama Peninsula (Yonago, Sakaiminato) in Tottori Prefecture. For this reason it was given the name "Yumihama," an alternative name for Yumigahama. However, it is also simply called Hama Kasuri. It is famous as picture kasuri and is counted, together with Kurayoshi Kasuri and Hirose Kasuri, as one of the three picture kasuri of San'in. It was designated a national traditional craft in 1975 and a Tottori Prefecture Designated Intangible Cultural Property in 1978. From the Edo period to the Meiji period many weavers existed, and it was especially popular among the kasuri of the San'in region.
