About this place

The Noto Kiriko Festival is a festival held in various places on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. It uses cut-glass-style lanterns called kiriko or hoto. Some giant kiriko exceed 10 metres in height, but those of 4 to 6 metres are the norm, and around 20 people carry a single kiriko. Depending on the area they are also called oakashi. It is common for them to parade through the town, go in procession to the otabisho (often by the water or in an open square) and return to the shrine, and in some festivals the procession crosses the sea.
