The first shrine of Noto province. Said to be over 2,100 years old, it honours Onamuchi-no-mikoto.
About this place
A shrine in Hakui, Ishikawa Prefecture, the Ichinomiya of Noto Province. Its main deity is Onamuchi-no-Mikoto (Okuninushi-no-Mikoto), worshipped as a god of matchmaking, good fortune and recovery from illness. In the precinct is Irazu no Mori, a national natural monument, an old-growth forest of about 10,000 tsubo that has been off limits since ancient times, entered only by the priests once a year at the Okumiya annual festival.
