A post town in Chizu, keeping the streets of what was the largest such town in the prefecture in the Edo period.
About this place
Chizu-juku (also Chizu-shuku) was a post town on the Inaba Kaido formerly in Chizu District, Inaba Province, and is the former post town in present-day Oaza Chizu, Chizu, Yazu District, Tottori Prefecture. It has a history of prospering as a post town for both roads, located where the Chizu Orai (Inaba Kaido), the road linking the Kinai and Inaba since the Nara period and also used as a sankin-kotai road in the Edo period, meets the Bizen Kaido. The Chizu Orai has been selected for the Top 100 Historic Roads and Top 100 Walking Trails, and old buildings such as shrines, temples and townhouses still remain along the road today.
