About this place
Manza Onsen is a hot spring at an elevation of 1,800 m in Joshinetsu Kogen National Park, at Hoshimata, Tsumagoi Village, Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture (former Kozuke Province). Together with Nigorigo Onsen in Gero, Gifu Prefecture, it is the highest-altitude hot spring in Japan reachable by private car all year round. Nearby are three explosion crater lakes, Yugama, Karegama and Mizugama. It is characterised by cloudy white or cloudy yellow water and is the hot spring with the highest sulphur content in Japan. The flow is 3,750 litres per minute.
