The setting of the Kanjincho tale, and the source of a belief in getting through hard tests.
About this place
Ataka no Seki is a barrier said to have been set up by the shugo Togashi clan at Ataka on the Sea of Japan side of Komatsu, Ishikawa. Based on the episode at Nyoi no Watashi, it is also famous for the kabuki play "Kanjincho", in which Minamoto no Yoshitsune, passing through with Musashibo Benkei and others on the way to Hiraizumi, the base of the Oshu Fujiwara, was seen through by the barrier guard after Benkei read a false kanjincho (subscription list), but was allowed to pass thanks to the sympathy of the barrier guard Togashi Yasuie.
