About this place
Owari shippo is cloisonne ware made in Ama and Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, and is a Traditional Craft designated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (29th designation, 5 April 1995). It is registered as a regional collective trademark. It is said to have begun in the Tenpo era (1830-1844), when Kaji Tsunekichi, who lived in Owari Province, discovered the manufacturing method using a shippo dish imported on a Dutch ship as a clue and improved on it.
