About this place
Oyama Senmaida is a terraced rice field in Oyama, Kamogawa, Chiba Prefecture. Although it is called "Senmaida" (a thousand rice paddies), in fact 375 paddies are lined up on a slope of 3.2 hectares. In 1999 it was certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as one of Japan's 100 Best Terraced Rice Fields, and it is also a target area of the Agency for Cultural Affairs' project for the preservation and use of cultural landscapes. In 2022 the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries also certified it as a "Tsunagu Tanada Isan (Connecting Terraced Rice Field Heritage: Passing Hometown Pride to the Future)." In 2002 Chiba Prefecture also designated it a cultural property and place of scenic beauty.
