About this place
Sugimura Sojinkan Memorial Museum is a memorial museum in Abiko, Chiba Prefecture, consisting of the former Sugimura Sojinkan residence and its garden. Sugimura Sojinkan (real name Kotaro) was a journalist active at the Tokyo Asahi Shimbun from the end of the Meiji period to the early Showa period. He liked the scenery of Lake Teganuma in Abiko and bought a villa there in 1912 (Meiji 45); after suffering the misfortune of losing two children in the Great Kanto Earthquake, he moved there with his family in 1924 (Taisho 13).
