A working public bath that is also an Important Cultural Property, extended so often that its interior became a maze.
About this place
Dogo Onsen Honkan is a public bathhouse in the centre of Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture. A modern Japanese-style building whose reconstruction was completed in 1894 (Meiji 27), it is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan and is a symbol of the hot spring town. In the public bathhouse ranking, it was ranked a yokozuna of the west alongside Yudanaka Onsen Oyu in the east, and in March 2009 it was awarded two stars in the Michelin Guide (tourist sites) Japan. In 2009 it was certified a "Modernisation Industrial Heritage" site by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. It has been selected as Shikoku 88 Views No. 54.
