About this place
Uchikoza is a theatre at 2102 Uchiko, Uchiko, Kita District, Ehime Prefecture. It is an Important Cultural Property. It is said to be the only surviving traditional theatre in Ehime Prefecture. Built in 1916 (Taisho 5) by volunteers of Uchiko, it was also used as a cinema for a time after the war; the first Uchikoza restoration project was completed in 1985, and the second-phase improvement project in October 1995. It is near the Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings "Yokaichi-Gokoku."
