About this place
Aizu Buke Yashiki is an open-air history museum in Ishiyama, Higashiyamacho, Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture. Centered on the residence of Saigo Tanomo, a chief retainer of the Aizu Domain, historic buildings that have been restored or relocated stand side by side. It is operated by Sotsuikan Co., Ltd. In 1975 (Showa 50), it opened with the restoration of the Saigo Tanomo residence and other buildings in order to pass on the samurai spirit of Aizu to later generations. The operating company at that time had the same name as the facility, Aizu Buke Yashiki, and the first director was Takagi Atsuyasu.
