Overview
One of Japan's three great kasuri districts; its toughness made it workwear, and the town later turned to denim.
About this place
Bingo kasuri is kasuri made from Shinichi to Ashida-cho in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture. Together with Iyo kasuri and Kurume kasuri, it is also regarded as one of Japan's Three Great Kasuri. It is mainly cotton, and silk and wool were also once produced. Currently (as of March 2011), only cotton is produced. Originally, the cultivation of cotton along the Fukuyama coast was encouraged by Mizuno Katsunari, lord of Fukuyama Castle.
