A glassworks that made fishing floats and oil lamps; a hall lit by 167 of those lamps became the image of the whole town.
About this place
Kitaichi Glass Co., Ltd. is a company in Otaru, Hokkaido, that makes and sells glass products. Its predecessor was Asahara Glass, founded in 1901 (Meiji 34). At first it made oil lamps, but it also made floats (buoys) for the then-flourishing herring fishery, and its business grew dramatically.
