About this place
Ako Dantsu is a woven floor covering produced in the Ako area (Ako) of Hyogo Prefecture. It was devised in 1849 by Kojima Naka, a native of the Ako area. As a hand-woven outdoor floor covering in which cotton thread is tied to the ground thread, it was commercialized in 1874 (Meiji 7) and spread overseas, and in the Showa period output increased with mechanization.
