Overview
Yarn dyed before weaving, so the colour holds; most of Japan's yarn-dyed cotton comes from this valley.
About this place
Banshu-ori is cotton fabric produced in the area centered on Nishiwaki, Hyogo Prefecture (formerly Shikama Prefecture). It is famous for plain weave of yarn-dyed thread and is used mainly as shirt fabric. It was once exported to Europe and America and even the Middle East and Africa, but with the inflow of low-priced goods from the People's Republic of China, output itself is on a downward trend.
