Overview
Inns were kept small and baths kept public, so the street works as the corridor of one large shared building.
About this place
Kinosaki Onsen is a hot spring in Kinosakicho, Toyooka, Hyogo Prefecture. It has a long history known from before the Heian period. In the Edo period it was called "Kaidai Daiichisen" (the foremost spring in the land), and the monument still remains. Along with Arima Onsen and Yumura Onsen, it is also one of the representative hot springs of Hyogo Prefecture. Salt spring: source temperature 37 - 83 degrees C. All the sources are collected in a central hot water distribution management facility built in 1972, where the average temperature is stabilized at 57 degrees, and then sent to each public bath and inn through pipes laid throughout the town.
