About this place
Kaga Hachiman Okiagari is a traditional craft produced in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. It is a local toy of Ishikawa Prefecture, built as a self-righting doll (okiagari-koboshi). It is finished in papier-mache with a pine, bamboo and plum pattern. Its shape resembles a daruma. It is said to have come to be made in the days of one Hachiman shrine per province, in imitation of the crimson swaddling clothes of the enshrined deity, the great deity Hachiman.
