About this place
The Noto Kiriko Festival is a festival held in various places on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. Kiriko lanterns (kiriko-doro), also called Hoto, are used. There are giant kiriko over 10 meters tall, but those 4 to 6 meters tall are the mainstream, and around 20 people carry one kiriko. Depending on the area, they are also called Oakashi. It is common for them to parade through the town, travel in procession to the otabisho (resting place, often by the water or in a plaza) and return to the shrine; at some festivals the procession also crosses the sea.
