About this place
Esashi Fujiwara no Sato is a theme park in Esashi, Oshu, Iwate Prefecture, themed on the Heian period. Honouring the history of the Oshu Fujiwara clan, it lets visitors experience the history and culture of Tohoku from ancient to medieval times. It is known as a location for NHK Taiga dramas. It opened on July 4, 1993 (Heisei 5). It is a large open set built for the filming of the 32nd NHK Taiga drama, 'Honoo Tatsu', broadcast that year, and was developed as a history park that could continue to exist after filming ended.
