About this place
The Kamaishi City Iron History Museum is a museum in Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture. It opened to pass on the achievements of the pioneers who engaged in the iron industry, including Oshima, who built Japan's first Western-style blast furnace at Ohashi (now Kamaishi). It was designed by the Tohoku branch of Sato Takeo Architects and received the 1985 Tohoku Architecture Award (Works Prize) from the Architectural Institute of Japan Tohoku Chapter. Comprehensive production theatre - centred on a full-size reconstructed model of a blast furnace, it unfolds the history of Kamaishi's iron in a fantastic way through images.
