About this place
Ajiishi is the name of stone produced in Ajicho and Murecho, Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture, around Mount Goken. It is a type of granite. It is registered as a regional collective trademark of the Japan Patent Office. It is used mainly as high-grade gravestone material. About 400 years ago, when stone walls were procured in Sanuki for the construction of Osaka Castle by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, stone was shipped from Aji, the port from which stone was loaded, and this is said to be its beginning.
