About this place
Tosa Uchihamono is traditional forged cutlery of Kochi Prefecture (formerly Tosa Province), Japan, and today refers to forged cutlery made within Kochi Prefecture by a set method. The Chosokabe Chiken-cho, the survey register of all of Tosa Province compiled under the Toyotomi regime, records 399 blacksmiths as of 1590 (18th year of Tensho), showing that it was already thriving greatly. In other words, it is a traditional craft that can be traced back at least to the Momoyama period (the latter half of the Azuchi-Momoyama period).
