Overview
Begun as a domain industry, and still turning out the same everyday jars and bowls.
About this place
Uchiharano ware is pottery fired in Aki, Kochi Prefecture. Around 1829 (Bunsei 12) a kiln was first opened at Uchiharano, and everyday items such as sake bottles and grinding bowls were mainly fired. It is characterised by a warm, simple texture using glazes made from wood ash and straw ash. Until the early Showa period large pieces were made using a climbing kiln, but demand declined with changes in lifestyle.
