About this place
Jozenji-dori is a road in Aoba Ward, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. It runs from an irregular four-way junction with Ekimae-dori to a T-junction with Nishi Koen-dori. It is one of Sendai's nicknamed roads, named through a public competition in 1982. The name Jozenji-dori has existed since the Edo period, but it became a long avenue through post-war reconstruction after the war damage. With four rows of zelkova trees, together with Aoba-dori it symbolises Sendai, known as the City of Trees. It is often the venue for urban events.
