About this place
The Miyagi Prefectural Library is a prefectural library in Murasakiyama 1-chome, Izumi Ward, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. Its predecessor was the Miyagi Library (Miyagi Shojakukan), opened in 1881 (Meiji 14) within Miyagi Normal School. It holds about 1.15 million items, including old books such as the Date Bunko, materials connected with the Date family. In September 1880 (Meiji 13), regulations for a book reading room were established at Miyagi Normal School.
