About this place
Naruko Onsen-kyo is the collective name (hot spring resort) of five hot springs in Osaki, Miyagi Prefecture (former Mutsu Province, Rikuzen Province from the Meiji period). It was also selected as one of the Japan's 100 Famous Hot Springs. Naruko Onsen-kyo consists of Naruko Onsen, Higashi-Naruko Onsen, Kawatabi Onsen, Nakayamadaira Onsen and Onikobe Onsen. It is in Kurikoma Quasi-National Park in north-western Miyagi Prefecture. The four hot springs of Naruko, Higashi-Naruko, Kawatabi and Nakayamadaira are along the JR Rikuu East Line or National Route 47. Onikobe Onsen, on the other hand, is apart from the other four, scattered in the Onikobe Caldera on the north side of Naruko Dam.
