About this place
Takachiho Yokagura is a folk performing art handed down in Takachiho, Nishiusuki District, Miyazaki Prefecture. It is the collective name for the kagura that is offered in about 20 villages in the town from mid-November to early February, with each village welcoming its tutelary deity into a private house or similar venue. To give thanks for the abundant autumn harvest and to pray for a bountiful harvest next year, 33 kagura pieces are dedicated to the gods.
