About this place

The Peace Statue is a statue in Peace Park, Matsuyamamachi, Nagasaki, Nagasaki Prefecture. Nagasaki planned its construction as part of commemorative events toward the 10th anniversary of the atomic bombing in 1955 (Showa 30); construction began in 1951 (Showa 26), and the unveiling ceremony was held on August 8, 1955. It is located in the Zone of Prayer in Nagasaki's Peace Park. It was made by the sculptor Kitamura Seibo, born in the former Minamiarima Town, Minamitakaki District (now Minamishimabara). It was made in his 70s, in his studio inside Inokashira Natural Cultural Park in Musashino, Tokyo.
