Overview
A ruined copper refinery turned museum without demolition, conditioned by sun and geothermal air alone.
About this place
The Inujima Refinery was a copper refinery that once existed on Inujima, Asahi Village, Oku District, Okayama Prefecture (at the time; now Higashi Ward, Okayama). At its peak it had more than 2,000 employees. However, due to a crash in copper prices and other reasons, operations stopped in 1919 (Taisho 8), and it was closed in 1925 (Taisho 14). In 1909 (Meiji 42), it was opened on Inujima, 2.5 km off Hoden, Okayama Prefecture, as a refinery for the Obie Mine located in Nakashomura, Tsukubo District (now Nakasho, Kurashiki).
