Overview
Markets and alleys descended from the postwar black market - unplanned, endlessly extended, and still trading.
About this place
Makishi Public Market is a public market in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture. With the closure of the Second Makishi Public Market in 2001 and the closure of the miscellaneous goods and clothing sections of the Makishi Public Market in 2022, only the "First Makishi Public Market" in Matsuo 2-chome, Naha, remains. The market is set about 150 meters into Ichiba Hon-dori from Kokusai-dori, and three sides adjoin pedestrian-only streets. The present market is a three-story building that opened on March 19, 2023 (Reiwa 5).
