About this place
Yakataishi no Nanatsugama is a row of sea caves in a cliff facing the coast in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, where basalt columnar jointing is well developed. It is a scenic spot designated a National Natural Monument, in Genkai Quasi-National Park. It is at Kanzaki, Yakataishi, Karatsu, at the end of Kawarakezaki, one of the capes of the Higashimatsuura Peninsula, about 6 km northwest of the city center. Many caves line a steep cliff about 40 meters (m) high facing the Genkai Sea.
