Overview
Bamboo shaved into round rods and slotted together - other regions use flat splints, so its curves are unique.
About this place
Suruga Take Sensuji Zaiku (English: Suruga Bamboo Craft) is a type of Suruga bamboo craft, a traditional bamboo craft produced around Shizuoka, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is designated a national traditional craft and a regional collective trademark. Across Japan there are many bamboo craft production areas, such as Beppu and the Hokuriku region. The greatest difference of Suruga Take Sensuji Zaiku compared with those areas is that while other areas weave flat strips, Suruga Take Sensuji Zaiku assembles round strips.
