About this place
Hakata Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is a shipbuilder with its head office in Hakata, Imabari, Ehime Prefecture. It is an independent shipbuilder with its head office and shipyard at Kiura on Hakata Island, Imabari, Ehime Prefecture. It is a member of the Japan Middle and Small Sized Shipbuilders' Association. It was established in 1958 to build and repair small steel ships. The founder, Kimoto Yusho, was one of Hakata Island's leading owners of motorized sailing vessels, and set up the shipyard himself to switch to steel ships. It is good at building small container ships, and in 2013 partnered with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries on developing small container ships.
