About this place
Kumano Fude (Kumano brush, Kumanofude) are brushes produced in Kumano, Aki District, Hiroshima Prefecture. They are a traditional craft designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. It is a group trademark managed by the production-area union, the Kumano Fude Cooperative Association. Called the "capital of brushes", it is Japan's largest production area and, together with Toyohashi brushes in Aichi, Nara brushes in Nara and Kawajiri brushes in Hiroshima, forms Japan's four major production areas. It is generally said to hold an 80% share in Japan, and with Kawajiri brushes, Hiroshima Prefecture's share in Japan is said to reach 90%.
