About this place
Hiroshima needles are needles produced in Hiroshima Prefecture. The name is a regional collective trademark managed by the Hiroshima Prefecture Needle Industry Cooperative. It is generally said to hold a 90% domestic share of hand-sewing needle production. According to materials published by the cooperative, it ranks first in Japan with 100% of sewing needles and 97% of pins, and second with 49% of household sewing machine needles. Daily output is 750,000 needles. It makes needles for many fields, and 73% of total output is exported overseas. Kojima Kiyoko, who makes hand-hammered needles, has been selected as a holder of a nationally selected conservation technique.
