About this place
Taketsuru Shuzo Co., Ltd. is a sake brewer with its head office in 3-chome, Honmachi, Takehara, Hiroshima Prefecture. In the 1660s (Manji era) in the middle of the Edo period, it ran a salt-making business under the shop name Ozasaya, and in 1733 (Kyoho 18) it began brewing sake, using the surplus winter labor. Cranes nested in the bamboo grove behind the house, and delighted that "though one has long heard of cranes on pines, cranes on bamboo are an auspicious sign," the family took the name Ozasaya Taketsuru (bamboo crane), which began its use as a brand and family name. In 1970 (Showa 45) it released the junmai sake Hiden Taketsuru.
